AI Forum NZ

Group Project Rebranding & Creative Media Strategy

This project involved collaboration within an interdisciplinary team comprising two graphic designers and two UX/UI designers. As a graphic designer, my responsibilities primarily revolved around developing collateral for AI Forum NZ. This included creating a cohesive visual identity, designing social media content, podcast materials, and crafting slide templates for the client's presentations at panels and events.

Our objective for this project was to rebrand AI Forum NZ to effectively convey their message and aspiration of becoming the primary advocate for Artificial Intelligence in Aotearoa. Additionally, they sought increased engagement from the Māori and Pasifika communities in New Zealand. To address this, we positioned these communities as the primary navigators in the evolving AI landscape. Drawing on the metaphor of Māori and Pasifika people as the original navigators of the Pacific, this concept informed all creative decisions made throughout the project, reinforcing the connection and significance of their role.

The Process

  • Logo Concept & Ideation

As with any project inception, I initiated the process with ideation and multiple iterations of logo concepts. Unlike previous endeavours, this project offered the advantage of collaborating within a team, allowing for valuable feedback and idea exchange a novel experience that enriched the creative journey.

  • Logo Refinement

In the subsequent phase of the project, upon receiving feedback from the client expressing uncertainty about the initial logo direction, our team regrouped and revisited the drawing board. We generated new iterations and concepts, tailored to align more closely with the client's preferences and the essence of our project.

  • Branding & Stylescape

Once a logo and direction were agreed upon, we commenced the brand creation process, endeavouring to convey the narrative we envisioned for the project to our audience. We aimed to effectively communicate the story behind the project and its significance through cohesive branding elements.

  • Generative AI

To facilitate asset creation for this project, we recognized the importance of utilizing AI tools. We conducted experiments with generative AI to generate assets, incorporating them as background elements and key features within the project.

  • Social Media Content

The concluding phase of the project involved establishing a digital presence for the brand, aimed at promoting awareness of events and current developments within the New Zealand AI landscape. However, this phase presented challenges as we encountered difficulty aligning the content with the story and vision of the brand we had created. Ultimately, our refinements focused on reinforcing key values and themes centred around the concept of being a lead navigator in the AI space.
